This was really a great weekend for Driven Gym/Spyda Muay Thai.

Jaime Mendoza brought home a pretty decisive victory over a tough and bigger opponent from a well reputed Muay Thai gym. The fight took place in the Bronx. The fight world is full of inconsistencies and unpleasant surprises. What makes us fighters is how we deal with them. Jaime initially was training and cutting weight to fight a Muay Thai bout at 140lbs. He was down to 142lbs already when we found out that his opponent had pulled out. Another opponent had to be rescheduled for him however this one would take place at 145lbs. Needless to say we weren’t too pleased but we were up for the challenge as Jaime is not a stranger to that weight. His opponent was tough, the fight was challenging but what really stood out to me is the respect these two fighters kept showing each other throughout the fight. They understood that a Muay Thai fight is not a personal vendetta between two fighters….It was refreshing to see them both conversing after the fight like good friends. Muay Thai is respect!!!

More than 40 people showed up to our Grand Opening celebration today. This picture shows a few of those who came for the Muay Thai portion of the day. Some members, some friends and family, some complete strangers who came to show us their support. Granted, our gym has been opened for 7 days at the time of this article, I have to say I am impressed by the amount of support we have gotten from everyone. We are thankful to be able to do what we do. Everyone has been congratulating James Meals and myself for this venture we have embarked on. We are confident that sky is going to be the limit and our hard work will pay off. I can’t wait to have another session like this……Maybe next month?……lol.
