Rather than one formal discipline in a cookie cutter mold, our members have the option to train under more than one single discipline. Driven also offers a much more contemporary approach to the martial arts – not just kicks and punches. We create a perfectly balanced blend of Martial arts and fitness all in one.
What is Muay Thai?
Muay Thai is a Martial art/combat sport which derives from Thailand. It is a striking discipline that also makes use of some devastating clinching techniques to subdue their aggressor. Muay Thai is gobally known as “the art of eight limbs” because it uses not only two limbs (boxing), not only 4 limbs (most traditional martial arts)….It uses 8 limbs which are the fists, the elbows, the knees, and the shins (and feet) which in all combined with an excellent blend of physical fitness and mental toughness creates strong and superior athletes, which is why Muay Thai has long been regarded as one of the most efficient striking martial arts and self defense tool in the world. .
What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport that emphasizes grappling on the ground. Founded by the Gracie family ,the theory is that a weaker, smaller person can subdue an bigger aggressor by using techniques that rely strongly on leverage and various chokeholds and Joint locks as well as other joint manipulations. On the ground there are no other martial arts that come close to matching the efficiency of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Also known as “BJJ”).

WHAT OUR MEMBERS SAY
I was at a crossroads in my career when Kru James Meals reached out to me and brought me into his gym to help turn my career around. His deep knowledge of Muay Thai and its application to MMA is matched only by his genuine love for the sport, propensity to teach, and his ability to reach various personality types. If you're new to the sport or a professional athlete, I highly recommend Driven Gym!
I have been training with Spyda for a little over 2 years. Coming from a martial arts background he was/is able to help me control my body to perform proper Muay Thai techniques. His attitude towards all his student from young, old, fighters and non fighter is the same. He trains and treats all students with the respect and level of professionalism that comes with the sport. He trains all his students as fighters and shares his very vast knowledge so that if you ever decide to step into the ring you know you are ready. To simply put it into words it's not what Spyda teaches, it's how he teaches. His passion and enthusiasm comes out in his lessons. I am proud to say the transition from stranger to coach to friend is nothing short of amazing.
Great gym with top notch coaches. I have been training Muay Thai for 8 years and chose this gym because of the high level of knowledge and experience of both Kru Spyda and Kru James. The coaching staff as well as all members of the gym are friendly, welcoming, and willing to help any person with any level of experience. This gym is a great place to train for competition or get in shape!
Working with James Meals has forever changed my life. I started with James in 2011. He developed me into the fighter I am now. Under his guidance I went undefeated as an amateur and I am now on the verge of making my dreams of fighting in the UFC come true. Along with Spyda, he travels to Thailand annually to perfect his craft and learn the latest techniques. James is very well respected on the east coast. he's worked with many fighters from amateurs to world champions. No matter your skill level or your goals, They will be able to accommodate you. I recommend Driven Gym to anyone who is serious about getting in shape, learning, competing or simply just looking to change their life.
So I never threw a punch before I started training with Spyda Muay Thai. I liked martial arts but was nervous about striking. I've been working with Spyda and the team for 2 years now and I've fallen in love with the art and can throw some pretty good punches, kicks, knees and elbows. The teachers do a great job of developing sound fundamentals. I enjoy working hard and improving with them and the team. They also promote a really respectful environment. I've sparred with competitors and beginners and never felt like anyone was out to prove something. It's been a great experience and I hope to continue training with them for a long time.
I joined Spyda Muay Thai later in life - an out of shape 39 y/o who was never athletic. Spyda told me on day 1 he was going to get me into the best shape of my life, and within a few months, not only was I in better shape than ever, but he helped me develop a love for the art of Muay Thai. Spyda’s passion and knowledge is clear every time you train with him and I am very thankful to have had the honor of working with him
The experience with Spyda Muay Thai has been phenomenal. Spyda created the instruction to build upon the areas that I needed improvement in, which was very helpful because I had no previous Muay Thai training. His knowledge of Muay Thai is extensive and He is always willing to answer questions and give guidance on how to improve. It's hard not to feel like one of the family because the classes are interactive and the other students are extremely supportive .
